Avalon Rotary Auction Great Success
September 20, 2007
The Avalon Rotary Club hosted their annual Auction for Charity on Friday night at The Landing. Lively bidding and revelry ruled the evening, resulting in raising $30,000 for the club's charitable giving purposes for the next year.
One outstanding feature of the night was the lovely cocktail waitresses. Headed by new member Phil Kirsch, Bill Jones, Paul DeMyer and Gary Thomas donned grass skirts, foam bikini-lookalike bras, wigs and lipstick to the play the part. They did an excellent job of keeping the audience well lubricated so the money for charity flowed liberally.

Emcees Wayne Griffin and Denny Honsey kept the live auction hopping, urging ever higher bids from the audience. The evening began with several entertainers including singers Porschia Denning and Scott Dennis, a new group whose lead singer (Angel Teckenoff) was dressed as a green reptile performed "Crocodile Rock," and then the entertainment culminated with a rousing performance of "Stop in the Name of Love" by Mayor Bob and the Councilettes.
The auction was chaired by Aisha Hoffmann and she and her team did an outstanding job of organizing the entire evening. It surely is one that will not soon be forgotten by anyone attending. And thanks to everyone's generosity, the fruits of the auction will shared with local charities the rest of the year, such as Catalina Island Medical Center, Avalon Schools, Catalina Island Humane Society, Catalina Island Museum and much more.
