6th Annual Avalon Rotary Auction
August 17, 2007
The Rotary Club of Avalon is preparing to put its motto "Service Above Self" into action once again, with its 6th Annual Auction this September 14 at the Landing Restaurant. As its largest fund raising event, the club is pulling out all the stops to give the people of Avalon a night to remember.
From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. guests will be treated to a Mexican Buffet, various raffle items, the largest and most valuable being a 46-inch Sharp Television, valued at around $3,000, for which only 200 tickets will be sold, at $50 each. This makes the chance of winning enticingly good.
In addition there will be "grab mystery bags" on each table, containing surprise items, and entertainment by the "Avalon Idols", featuring various local talents, which will be judged by different judges from the service organizations in the community.
This yearly event earmarks all of its proceeds for local organizations and charities. The effort has produced nearly $100,000 over the past three years alone, with the Catalina Island Medical Center receiving a major portion. Chairman Aisha Hoffman wants this year's Auction to be a "fast moving" affair, with dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the auction at 7 p.m. Admission for the event is $10, which includes the buffet.
